The 1977 Harkinistas

Counter-clockwise spiral from lower left: U.S. Rep. Tom Harkin (Iowa, 5th District, Democrat) with daughter Amy, Ruth Harkin, Diana Baker with infant (Tim Palmer), George Palmer, Theresa Zagnoli with "Boycott Lettuce" tee, Francine Freedman, Bob Mulqueen, Clyde Brown (L.A.) with bottle, Barry Piatt (P.R.), Liddy Fitzpatrick with brochure, Kent Hall, Karen Levine (intern), Sara Mathews with bandana, John Fitzpatrick (A.A.) with coffee cup, Jeanne Palmer with child -- Harkin Congressional staff retreat at Camp Hoover, located at the headwaters of the Rapidan River in Shenandoah National Park just off Skyline Drive, in early Fall, 1977. Hoover’s trout stream was pretty tame when I saw it in 1976, but it tumbles through some boulders which are fun to hop around on. This area was not open to the public at the time; cabins were reserved for use by Members of Congress and various other federal guvmint bigwigs.
